De Smit-Lloyd 90 klasse

Joint Venture.

L x B x D: 65 x 14 x 7 mtr. Diepgang 5 mtr.
Drillwater 696 m3 (200), drinkwater 265 m3 (108), gasolie 573 m3 (173), liquid mud 348 m3 (110), bulk 6003 ft3 (100), brine 348 m3. Dek lading 862 MT.

Smit-Lloyd Odin B.V.

Smit-Lloyd BV and S. Sejersted Bodtker Group, Oslo have formed a joint venture company, entitled Smit-Lloyd Odin BV, which is located in Rotterdam.

The new company will acquire three newbuilding third generation UT 704 anchorhandling/tug/supply vessels under construction for the account of companies wthin the Bodtker Group at the Titovo Shipyard in Jugo-Slavia.

The vessels which are built to Det Norske Veritas class have a main engine output of 9,000 BHP giving a bollard pull of 110 tons. All three ships will fly Dutch flag and be managed by Smit-Lloyd BV using experienced Dutch officers and crews.

To reflect their 9,000 BHP main engine output, the vessels will be named Smit-Lloyd 90, 91 and 92 in conformity with Smit-Lloyd's longstanding policy of numbering the various classes of vessel in their fleet into easily indentifiable groups, such as the 70, 100 and 120 classes.
Smit-Lloyd is familiar with the UT 704 class of vessel, having operated two 7040 BHP first generation versions of the wellknown design during 1980/1982.
The enhanced 9,000 BHP version, apart from its improved technical specification, which includes joy-stick control, Karmoy forks/hydraulic towing pins and a 2,200 barrels liquid mud carrying capacity, has the attraction to Smit-Lloyd of filling a gap between their 8,000 BHP 100 class and the 10,000 BHP 120 class.

For Bodtker there is the obvious benefit of linking up with a major operator who enjoys a high reputation for reliability and performance and who also has ready access to the international market.
In this regard, most Norwegian owners have tended to ristrict their activities to the North Sea area whereas the bid operators such as Smit-Lloyd have an organisationel structure which enables them to provide technical back up anywhere in the world.
No decision has yet been taken in where the vessels will be deployed, but should it be decided to operate in the North Sea, Smit-Lloyd feel that the strong Norwegian participation in the new Company will assist their efforts to penetrade the Norwegian market in which in recent years has almost exclusively been reserved for the Norwegian flag ships.

Smit-Lloyd BV is responsible for marketing the Smit-Lloyd 90, 91 and 92 on a worldwide basis, with the exclusion of Norway where Odin Marine Services A/S of Oslo represents the new company.
Odin is an associate company within the Bodtker and Arthur H Mathiesen Groups.

This new move is in keeping with Smit-Lloyd's declared policy of establishing joint ventures and co-operation agreements with selected outside interests when and where suitable opportunities arise.
